| Here we are in Y39... Y38 kind of flew by, didn't it? It looks like rollover ran smoothly and everything is on track to start this year off right. I want to apologize in advance that I don't have any huge news about updates yet, but instead we'll be trickling updates in over the next couple of weeks. Be prepared for some news spam, but also keep an eye on the bulletin board where some changes will be noted as we go along. Marathons The first thing I'd like to announce is that we've made a bit of a change for marathons. Marathon races are now held at 14-18 furlongs rather than the 12-16 they were previously. Marathon has blossomed over the last several game years and we felt it was only fair they have an entire division to themselves now without having to overlap with 12F flat runners. This means 18F races will be added across the board as well as a few new AQs throughout the year. There may also be some adjustments to series race (GC & WCF) distances for them as things move along. If your horse was already trained for 12-16 furlongs, you will need to manually remove their 12F training! This will unlock the option to start training 18F. 12F is no longer an option for marathon horses, but training was left in place to accommodate those who were already entered in 12F races last night. Newly transitioned marathoners will be able to train for 14-18F right away and should not see 12F as an option. Artificial Insemination I'd also like to take a moment to talk about a highly anticipated new feature - artificial insemination (AI). While this practice is not used in real life Thoroughbreds, it accounts a substantial portion of breeding in Quarter Horse, Standardbred, and other breeds. It's been something people have been asking for on FFH for a long while, not necessarily due to realism but due to convenience. For an initial collection fee of 500 PC, you can may draw up to 2 straws from any stallion (retired or pensioned) 25 years or younger. This can be done at the Veterinarian page. Each straw will be assessed an annual storage fee (each January), which may be paid in FFH$ or PC. There will also be a market added for buying and selling straws. The AI system is not yet complete - but you can go ahead and start collecting straws. Everything else will be coming soon. Why AI? There are two benefits to AI on FFH. First, it allows you to breed 2 foals beyond your stallion's breeding slots without needing to increase his slots. Second, it allows you to pension a stallion but still have the opportunity to breed a couple mares to him several years down the road. Driving A little bird mentioned something about driving?! Yes, Standardbreds are getting their own transition option sometime in the next week or two. This will work similar to steeplechase in that it will reroll a horse's stats based on their aptitude for driving. It will also extend their career by improving Longevity and Prime. This announcement is a bit premature, but it has been mentioned in Discord so it's only fair to make it 'public' knowledge and give you a little time to plan accordingly. Peak I've heard that some 2 year olds have Peak genes that don't seem quite right. While I cannot confirm or deny that this is a bug yet, we will be looking into it. If it is determined a bug, all 2yos will have their Peak genes rerolled, so don't put too much stock in your 2yo's Peak yet. Keep an eye out on the bulletin board for the final verdict. Terrible Twos As is common every January, we've seen a lot of comments about how everyone's 2 year olds are terrible, horrible, no good, very bad... You get the picture. There are a couple things worth reiterating here just to be sure everyone's on the same page. First, a 25 AFP is perfectly normal. If your AFP is 25, or near it, you are not a horrible breeder and the world is not ending. If your AFP is significantly below 25, it likely means that you breed a low total number of foals and/or have a lot of HT or otherwise low quality mares. This is not the end of the world either, it just means that your breeding program is not yet established. It takes many years to establish yourself through several generations of breeding! Growing pains along the way are normal. Even the best breeders making the best possible breeding crosses has their fair share of unexpected "dud" foals. FFH would not be nearly so exciting (or balanced) if breeding always went according to plan. Second, it's natural to feel like your 2 year olds are bad. Why? They start out with low stats! Some are already maxed or near maxed and it's easy to tell that they'll be lower potential. Those that aren't maxed are also currently low potential, which makes it harder to get excited about them than it would be if they were born maxed. The removal of the Gelding Advisor also means you have more intact colts than normal - many of which would have been gelded as yearlings and shown up as higher potential 2 year olds than they are this year. All that said, I will be hanging out in #Ask_Issa over on Discord this morning and will be happy to answer any questions you have about breeding, your 2 year olds, or why any specific horse came out the way it did. This is not an invitation to whine and complain about them, but rather a chance to clear up any confusion before breeding this year. |

| I'm so glad to see the marathon changes! It will hopefully help a bit with the "bottleneck" since they won't have to share any races with flat racers I'm also super excited for driving! I feel like a lot of my stocks and stbs kind of got the short end of the stick as far as prime and longevity goes so the ability to extend their racing years a bit without pouring items into them is fantastic! Thank you! |
